Listen to Philipp Fürnstahl from Universitätsklinik Balgrist. He, his team and together with the project partners at the Department of Computer Science (D-INFK), ETH Zürich, ZHAW School of Engineering, Atracsys LLC (Smith+Nephew Group) and VirtaMed are pioneering a simulator to train open surgeries.
The new orthopedic surgery simulator will integrate Augmented Reality, elevating training to a new level of realism and enabling the simulation of complications and other scenarios. Additionally, it harnesses the power of Artificial Intelligence to analyze residents' performance through diverse sensor modalities. The cutting-edge technologies not only minimize the need for an instructor but also enhances residents’ training curve and streamline the assessment of each trainee's proficiency level, marking a significant advancement in surgical training.
Have a look how the simulator works so far. Copyright of the video at University of Zurich.
